HuntAR is an augmented reality treasure hunt. This policy explains what information the app uses and how. We keep data collection to a minimum.
Information stored on your device
Your hunt progress, profile, stats, and achievements are stored only on your device. They are not sent to us unless you opt in to the leaderboard.
Camera
The camera is used only to display augmented reality clues in your surroundings. Camera images are processed live on your device and are not recorded or uploaded.
Location
Location is used to find nearby hunts and to confirm you are at a clue. Your location is used on your device and is not shared for advertising.
Game Center and the leaderboard
If you opt in, your Game Center username and your hunt results (score, time, hints, accuracy) are sent to our server and shown on the public leaderboard, including this website. You can turn this off any time in Settings, which stops new results from being shared.
Anonymous account
To post to the leaderboard, the app creates an anonymous account identifier on our backend. It is not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID.
App analytics
We use basic, anonymous usage analytics to understand how the app is used and to fix problems. This data is not used to identify you.
Optional website analytics
The public website uses HuntAR's own first-party analytics only after you select Allow analytics. Declining does not limit the website. HuntAR does not load Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, advertising cookies, social-media tracking scripts, or other third-party analytics tags.
If you consent, we record a random browser identifier, a 30-minute session identifier, the page path, the referring website's host name, campaign labels included in a HuntAR link (such as utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign), broad device type, country code, the database-recorded event time, and whether you clicked a HuntAR App Store link. We use this information to count consented visits and understand which advertisements or community posts bring people to HuntAR.
We do not store your IP address, full browser user-agent string, full referring URL, name, email address, Apple account, payment information, or activity on other websites. An App Store link click does not tell us whether you installed or purchased the app.
Your analytics choice, random browser identifier, and current session are stored in your browser's local storage. Analytics events are stored in Supabase for up to 180 days and are shown only as aggregate reports in the authenticated HuntAR admin dashboard. Selecting Turn off analytics under Analytics choices stops future collection and requests deletion of analytics rows linked to that browser identifier.
These reports intentionally undercount total website traffic because visitors who decline analytics, enable a recognized privacy signal, block local storage, or do not make a choice are not counted.
Website cookies and storage
If you choose a light or dark theme, the site saves that preference as huntar-theme in your browser's local storage. It is used only to remember the interface choice you requested.
The restricted admin page sets a secure, strictly necessary authentication cookie after an authorized administrator signs in. It also sets a secure owner-device exclusion cookie so that browser is not counted in public website analytics. All website fonts are hosted by HuntAR, so viewing the site does not send a font request to Google or another font provider.
Your choices
Leaderboard name sharing is off by default. You can opt in or out any time under Settings, Leaderboard Name. You can also manage camera and location access in the iOS Settings app.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of service providers: Vercel hosts the website and receives web requests; Supabase stores leaderboard entries and consented website analytics; and Apple provides Game Center and App Store services. These providers may process information outside Quebec or Canada under their service terms. We do not sell your data or share website analytics with advertising networks.
Purchases
Paid hunts are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
Data retention and deletion
Local app data is removed when you delete the app. Website analytics events are automatically deleted after 180 days and can be removed earlier from the browser that created them by turning off analytics. To remove leaderboard entries or ask about other data, turn off leaderboard name sharing in Settings or email info@huntar.ca.
Children
HuntAR is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page.
